GWGVFD CREWS RECEIVE UNIT CITATION

(Gaithersburg) -- Firefighters and Medical Technicals assigned to the GWGVFD have received a Montgomery County Unit Citation for their actions at a fire at 7211 Millcrest Terrance on January 5, 2002 where four people were trapped.

Company 28 arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke and fire. Firefighters began an aggressive attach on the fire while immediately begining search and rescue efforts. Other units, including those from Company 8, worked through intense heat and smoke to locate, remove and treat the gravely injured victims. Sadly, 2 adults and 2 children perished at this tragic fire.

Members of the GWGVFD units, along with those from units from Rockville, Laytonsville and Kensington performed outstandingly under intense physical and emotional conditions.
