Troops with Santa on a Tank

Don't Throw Out Those Holiday Cards!

The Gaithersburg-Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department (GWGVFD) Junior Fire Brigade (JFB) Holiday Greeting Card Recycling Project

The GWGVFD is collecting new and used holiday greeting cards for a special JFB community project.  The front panels from used donated cards will be recycled to create “new” greeting cards. All cards will then be sent to U.S. soldiers serving away from home during the 2010 holiday season.  Please help honor our troops by donating gently used or unused cards from this or past holiday seasons.  Unused envelopes are also welcomed.

Your cards and those collected from friends, families, coworkers, organizations, and community groups can be dropped off at the followings locations:

-Station 8: 801 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20879
-Station 28: 7272 Muncaster Mill Rd., Derwood, MD 20855
-GWGVFD Museum (Old Station 8): 13 E. Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877 (Saturdays only from 10:00-2:00)

You may also send items by mail to GWGVFD Station 8: 801 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20879, ATTN: Bob Harding.

Please direct questions to Bob Harding (301-646-1222) or Ann Hughes (301-869-0158).

Collection ends Saturday, February 6, 2010.

GWGVD Brings Out the Shovels

The volunteers at the GWGVFD braved the "Blizzard" of 2009 to keep the fire trucks and ambulances rolling from Station 8 and 28. Our teams plowed and shoveled over 1 million pounds of snow around the stations and on calls with the ambulances all over the area. Additionally the volunteers helped apply and fix chains on the tires of the heavy equipment to give extra traction.

A special thanks goes out to everybody involved with keeping the GWGVFD stations open and operational during the worse snow the area has seen in thirteen years.
