HENNING RECEIVES A "MONTGOMERY'S BEST" 2001 HONOR AWARD

The winners of the 2001 County Honor Awards were honored at the Indian Spring Country Club on November 29, 2001, hosted by County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Romer. These prestigious awards recognize exceptional efforts on the part of individuals, teams, and organizations to support the County's guiding principles and programs.

The highest award presented is the Award for Exceptional Service. Kathleen Henning was named in "recognition of her outstanding government service and exemplary volunteer support to the Gaithersburg -Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Lowes Home Safety Council, National Search and Rescue, and to the American Red Cross, Montgomery County Chapter."

Highlighted among the accomplishments for the award were her service for the GWGVFD Fire Safety House and JR Fire Brigade, outstanding service in the field of Emergency Management, and for her role on the Lowes Home Safety Council. The LHSC has raised over 10 million dollars for home safety and injury prevention over the last several years. Ms. Henning was also selected as one of 50 individuals to attend a World Disaster Manager's conference in Caserta, Italy in 2000 with the International Association of Emergency Managers. This award requires the demonstration of outstanding skills and abilities over an extended period of time.

121 nominations were submitted by County departments and offices. Almost 1,000 individuals were included in the nominations -- including employees and volunteers from County government and other County agencies, County residents, and employees of various private sector organizations. 33 awards will be presented to a total of 151 individual and group recipients in 7 award categories.  Ms. Henning was among the eight awardees in her category.
