THE GWGVFD FIRE SAFETY HOUSE DEBUTS (Gaithersburg) - It's brand new...and it's a disaster on wheels! The Gaithersburg - Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department's Fire Safety House teaches youngsters how to deal with disasters, from fires to hurricanes. During a twenty-minute tour through a make-believe house children are taught how to prevent fires, how to escape from fires, ("get low and go"...to a safe, outside meeting place), and what to do if severe weather strikes. The Fire Safety House includes a working smoke detector, a strobe-light fire alarm for the deaf and a demonstration carbon monoxide detector. A special demonstration, complete with simulated lightening and shaking window blinds, helps teach severe storm safety. The Fire Safety House is available for community events. It was purchased with donations from our Gaithersburg, Washington Grove, Montgomery Village and Derwood neighbors plus a significant donation from the City of Gaithersburg. Mayor Sidney Katz joined FSH leader Kathee Henning and GWGVFD Junior Fire Brigade members Josephine Carr and Gabriel Spiro at our kick-off event, May 8th, at Flower Hill Elementary School.
If you would like to schedule a visit by the GWGVFD's Fire Safety House contact our FSH coordinator. |
