FISHER RECEIVES COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

(Gaithersburg) -- Gaithersburg – Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department past-President Kenneth Fisher has received the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Leslie B. Thompson Community Service Award.

At the Chamber’s annual Police, Fire & Rescue, Park Police and Sheriff’s Award Luncheon Fisher was cited for “outstanding leadership abilities…his many community outreach programs and for his countless hours of dedicated volunteer service.”

Fisher served as President of the GWGVFD for sixteen years, until retiring this past December. During his thirty-two years with the department he has served in numerous positions, including Chief and has logged thousands of volunteer hours. Fisher was instrumental in initiating the GWGVFD’s Junior Fire Brigade Program. He has been a major part of the Department’s Fire Safety House, which has provided fire-safety education to more than 25,000 children since 1974. Fisher has also served on numerous Montgomery County fire/rescue committees.

Fisher lives in Derwood with his wife, Lee.
