THE GWGVFD FIRE SAFETY HOUSE

The Gaithersburg - Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department operates the Fire Safety House as the cornerstone of our fire and injury prevention campaign. Equipped with living room, kitchen, and bedroom areas, the fire safety house teaches children to recognize a variety of home safety hazards. The tour ends with a simulated escape from a house fire. Artificial smoke seeps into the room, and the smoke detectors activate. The children then crawl to the door, and check it for heat. A small heater warms the door, so the students use the alternate escape. Stop, drop, and roll are featured, and the children receive coloring books and other materials.

Our new Fire Safety House was paid for with contributions from the people in our community and a generous grant from the City of Gaithersburg.
