GWGVFD MOURNS THE LOSS OF DONALD "DUCK" MAGRUDER
(Gaithersburg) - On June 14th, 2006, Donald "Duck" Magruder passed away. Donald Magruder was a lifelong member of the GWGVFD having joined the Department at age 16 in 1941. After four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, he returned to Gaithersburg and worked his way up the ranks from Private to Deputy Chief of Rescue. In 1991, he celebrated 50 years of service with the GWGVFD. Over the years he served his community and the GWGVFD in many ways -- in the first aid station at the Montgomery County Fair, as a first aid instructor, as raffle chairman, parade chairman, manager of the baseball team, and rescue officer. Since 1985, he served on the Board of Directors providing continuity and the reasoned perspective of experience, history, and tradition. We are justly proud of Deputy Chief Magrurder for his 50 years of service. (Adapted from a letter by Kenneth Fisher of GWGVFD 8/12/92) On June 17th, members of the GWGVFD attended the funeral services and participated in the processional to the cemetery.
