CPR Frequently Asked Questions
What CPR classes are taught by the GWGVFD?
Currently we are only offering Healthcare Provider. In the future we may increase the number and types of classes offered.
What are the types of classes and the differences between them?
The Healthcare Provider class is designed for healthcare professionals, including physicians, dentists, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, nursing assistants, and a wide variety of people working in the healthcare industry. It is approximately a 4-5 hour class and is more extensive than the other CPR classes. The curriculum includes relief of FBAO in both responsive and unresponsive victims, bag-mask ventilation and well as mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-barrier device ventilation. It also includes use of an AED on the adult victim and 2-rescuer CPR for all age groups.
The Healthcare Provider Renewal class is designed for Healthcare Providers with current (not yet expired) CPR card. It covers all the information in a Healthcare Provider class in an abbreviated version.
What is an AED?
AED stands for an automated external defibrillator. It provides quick easy access to defibrillation during a cardiac arrest. They can be found in many locations including airports, malls, sports arenas and various business/office locations.
