March 28, 2019

We need you!

We are holding our annual recruitment day at our historic fire station in old town Gaithersburg (13 East Diamond Ave, Gaithersburg, MD) on Sunday, April 14 between 11:00am and 5:00pm. Come talk to current volunteers about what it takes to make a difference in your community!

We will also offer a community CPR course in the basement of our old station (13 East Diamond Ave, Gaithersburg, MD) from 12-4pm. Please be sure to sign up ahead of time on our website. Visit this link to sign up: https://www.gwgvfd.org/content/cpr/

GWGVFD is a non-profit volunteer organization committed to the protection of our community. In order for us to continue providing this exceptional level of service to the Gaithersburg community as we have for the past 90 years, we need more volunteers. Volunteering allows you the satisfaction of knowing that your time and efforts, along with your skills will make a difference where it’s needed the most.

We have three types of membership:
1. Operational Members ride fire/rescue apparatus as Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics or Firefighters.
2. Administrative Members help with non-operational duties on a regular basis.
3. Junior Fire Brigade (JFB) is a program designed for teens ages 14-18.

Why consider being a volunteer firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician?
· The personal satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference for the people who live and work in your community.
· No-cost training opportunities for all types of emergency response, including firefighting and emergency medical responses.
· An excellent way to receive training and on the job experience in preparation for a full-time firefighter/EMT position.

If you would rather donate your time in our non-operational activities, consider becoming an administrative member. You can provide invaluable support to the department through fundraising, education, various committees and auxiliary services such as our Canteen vehicle which is used on major incidents to provide food and other incidentals to the fire and rescue personnel.

The Junior Fire Brigade is a program for teens ages 14 to 18. Members focus on teaching fire safety using our Fire Safety House. Other community outreach activities include participation as mock victims in public safety exercises, neighborhood Santa rides, working at the museum and general help at the station.

If you would like to volunteer for any of these types of positions please visit www.gwgvfd.org and go to Join our Team. This page allows you to submit your application to volunteer and provides other information on requirements needed.
